Tarot is a set of divination cards based on the French playing card deck of the same name which originated with the Italian tarocci deck of the 16th century. Though there may be significant variation between decks, generally there are four suits: wands/staves/batons, cups, swords, and coins/pentacles of 14 cards each: numbered 1-10 and four court cards. There is also a trump suit numbered 0-22 featuring various archetypal images.
Cards are laid out in various spreads used by the reader to answer the seeker’s question.
