Divination is the use of spiritual or ceremonial means to gather information. The goal may be to gain knowledge of future events, but often divination is used to gain insight into a current state of affairs in order to help the questioner decide on a course of action. Divination may also be used by a magical practitioner after or during spellwork to determine the likely outcome of the spell. The word divination comes from the Latin divinare “to foresee, predict, prophecy”. There are many forms of divination. Astrology, cartomancy, augury, tasseomancy, rune casting, bone throwing and dowsing are just a few.
