There are nearly 400 types of willows. Most are deciduous trees or shrubs. All produce watery sap heavy with salicylic acid, a chemical which stimulates the immune system of plants and acts as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory in humans.

Willow wood is flexible and very tough and have enormous branching root systems.
