A dressing oil is an oil that has been specially prepared for programming or charging specific items for use in magic.

The oil is generally infused with various herbs associated with the intention of the spell and may also be exposed to crystals and other objects. Then it is ritually charged with its purpose with prayers or chants. The practitioner may choose special timing or expose the oil to the sun or moon in certain phases, according to their tradition. Once prepared, the dressing oil can be stored in a cool, dry place and used for the type of spell for which it was prepared.

To use a dressing oil: Apply the oil to the object to be charged with the intention for which the oil was prepared while stating the goal of the spell or reciting an appropriate spell.

Dressing oils are often used for candle magic, dressing the candle to prepare it for use in a spell.

Dressing oils are commonly used in Hoodoo and Conjure magic. Individual recipes are proprietary but they can often be purchased in Hoodoo shops.
