A closed practice is a cultural practice that is restricted to use by that culture. Generally, the only way to learn about these practices is to take part in them within the cultural context, sometimes after an initiation.

Sometimes, when discussing magickal techniques originating from a different culture in a forum, someone will speak up and say “That is a closed practice and you shouldn’t use it.” If it is a closed practice, you won’t know how to use it if it is not the practice of your culture. Some folks may have heard of a practice and even observed it but this does not mean they understand it.

It is highly unlikely anyone outside the culture was trained in such a way that they could accurately bring it to others.
